If you answered yes to these questions, Whatcom County is interested in learning more about your qualifications and experience and how you can best serve and improve county government by filling this key role in the Public Works Department, Equipment Services Division. This position serves a critical role in helping ensure the safety of employees and helping maintain continued County operations through servicing and repairing approximately 600+ fleet vehicles and equipment, and the Lummi Island “Whatcom Chief” ferry. Key duties include:
  • Performing routine and emergency inspections, maintenance and repairs on gas, diesel, electrical hybrid fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Installing multi-faceted components and complex systems, including but not limed to, air bags, air conditioning and anti-lock braking systems.
  • Preparing service orders and coordinating work schedules with customers, parts room and outside vendors.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires high school diploma or GED AND three years of recent experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy and light duty equipment. Advanced electronic system training and experience is required. Complex hydraulic, air, air conditioning and electronic diagnostic training and experience are required. Experience as a machinist is preferred. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) endorsement is preferred and may be required
