Bertha’s cutterhead is ready for its next trip

This is the cutter head for the boing machine to bore under the Seattle waterfront and replace the Alaska Way Viaduct.

There are several photos in this stream showing the unloading operations in Seattle.

Note the people on the right. Take a rough guess/count on the number of tires on the trailers used to haul this.

  2. Hi Jeffry,

The transport vehicles moving the TBM components have 96 axles with 8 tires per axle, for 768 tires total. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

  3. Wow... Impressive but understandable being that you need the proper number to support the load

  4. I ended up counting 736, is that extra section of trailer in the back, in the front too? I need a better picture. Probably should have looked for one. How wide is this load anyways? Any Guesses?
