What does Preventive Maintenance mean to you?

"fixing things that aren't broken"
"looking pulling, checking, all parts of a machine in order to extend the life of a machine"
"walk-around and thorough inspection and checklist"
"following established procedures and following the manufacturers scheduled maintenance guidelines"
"oil changes at certain mileage intervals"
"brake inspections"
"coolant flushes/air filter changes/fuel filter changes"
"inspections"
"proper lubrication of chassis"
"Very Important!"
"PM prevents a more costly repair down the line"
"(cost) in comparison to a catastrophic failure/repair down the line is minimal, compared to the time and money lost while vehicle is down"
"PM means to keep maintenance up to date to prevent (or before) something going wrong. PM is so important. It saves time and money in the long run. Pm could be something as small as changing fluids or as big as major services..e.g. belts, brakes, greasing etc..."
"(cost) I'm not sure of the cost but I'm going to research to find out."
"It means doing regular oil, coolant, and gear oil changes at recommended interval."
"Also while doing those changes, inspecting the equipment you're working on for any problems."
"It is pretty important"
"To me preventive maintenance means preventing a failure from happening in the near future on the long run. (replacing minor parts, all fluids, greasing, brakes, filters, etc...)"
"PM is very important if you want to 'save' money and not to keep fixing your vehicle"
"(cost) The cost of P is very cheap compared to the cost of having to repair the failures that can happen without maintaining the vehicles"
"Service truck and inspect for any problems that can arise. VERY important. With a good PM you can prevent break downs"
"(cost) About $200-$300."
"Testing of all fluids to determine service intervals specific to the truck. Tracking of fuel/oil usage so that when a change occurs it can be addressed. Full inspection at oil changes. Operator needs to be trained to do inspections. Very Important"
"Doing minor maintenance to prevent major maintenance like oil changes, check oils and fluids"
"Very important, can save time and money"
"(cost) PM is cheaper compared to waiting till something breaks"
"Preventive Maintenance to me means the routine maintenance you do to a machine to keep it running healthy and prolong its life. It is extremely important"
"(cost) In my mind $10,000 a year for preventive maintenance is way cheaper than a $200,000 piece of equipment."
"Maintaining the unit to stop potential major problems. Also giving you a chance to thoroughly inspect the vehicle. It is a forced check of the truck"
"(cost) It is the cost of making money. It is very important."
"To me PM is all the routine or scheduled maintenance to a truck. Such as oil, filters, and such. It is extremely important to keep up on the PM to prolong machine life. I think it's cheap compared to a major failure later."
"Preventive maintenance is the required maintenance for a vehicle, or piece of equipment, to keep it running smoothly and to extend it's life. "It is extremely important. If you do not maintain your equipment it will fail and you will have to replace it. Not only does it cost a hefty price to repair or replace it, there is also the cost of having a vital piece of equipment out of service."
"Fixing things that are going bad before they break. I think it is important because it will stop big problems from showing up later. In the long run it will cost less than letting things go without maintenance."
" PM means to me that the little things you do to keep your equipment maintained will pay off in the long run. It will also pay off for safe operation. For the school bus fleet that I help maintain there is a 3 page check list. It is very important."
"PM means finding problems before they become big problems. Changing oils, filters, etc to maximize equipment life. It is very important to be sure that equipment stays in running order and keep down time to a minimum."
"(cost) The cost of maintenance is a small price compared to dealing with the repairs as a result of the lack of PM."
"Less catastrophic repairs to do and lower cost. It is very important to do PM."
"PM means to carry out the required service tasks on schedule and perform regular inspections to prevent an unwanted breakdown. It's very important and costs less than if something breaks down on the road."
"PM means to me that a vehicle will last longer and run better; I believe it is very important and will also save money and is cheaper than replacing parts."
"Preventive Maintenance to me is the most important practice in vehicle repair. Being able to track and log truck and driver performance can go a long way in catching a small problem before it becomes a bigger issue. Everything from daily/weekly/monthly inspections, oil analysis and driver education contributes to keeping trucks making money; not costing money."
"PM means looking for signs of future problems on whatever is being serviced. Especially on regular lube/oil, checking overall state of other systems that are not being serviced."
"(cost) It is very important to your bottom line, the cost multiplies several times over if PM is not utilized. It is a saver or a budget buster depending how much PM is done."
"PM to me is getting all of my equipment ready for the busy construction time so all the operators are ready and there is no extra downtime. It is very important for me because if the equipment isn't ready to go then their bill start up and people can't eat. Yes, there is a cost to do maintenance as compared to not doing anything, then the equipment fails in the field. The technician then needs to travel to the job site to try to repair it in the field. If the piece of equipment cannot be repaired in the field then it need s to be hauled back to the shop. This is an added expense for transportation and downtime."
"PM to me means maintaining equipment over time so that it has the longest life and least amount of problems. I believe it is very important as far as money savings and life span of the equipment.
"PM has to do with things like oil changes and filters. This will increase the longevity and profit derived from a piece of equipment. It is very important because if you don't change oil and filters at specified intervals and you don't take care of mechanical parts your equipment won't last as long as you need it to."
"PM means to keep your equipment at its peak performance by keeping track of the service intervals and repairing potential failure items before failure. If there are failures the root cause needs to be investigated."
"Anything done to a piece of equipment that extends the life of the equipment. Under ideal circumstances, preventive maintenance prevents breakdown from occurring unexpectedly. PM is very important. As well as extend the life of equipment, it keeps the cost of the life of the equipment down exponentially."
