A little maintenance on the ferry engine. Note that this boat is probably still working on the other 3 engines and hauling cars at this point.

Would you use this?
Cummins re-usability guidelines do not allow for use of crankshafts damaged in the radius area of the bearing journals.
For size reference, the hole to the right of the photo is about 1/4" in diameter.

If you have followed the news the past few days you have seen the images of the Costa Concordia sinking off the coast of Italy. There are plenty of photos of the whole ship, but here is an interesting photo of the hole.
What do you suppose that the cruise industry and specifically the Costa line will learn from this grounding/sinking?
On another subject, I learned to remember that fluids can damage engine parts. I spilled coolant on my serpentine belt and did not rinse it off. It squeaked; badly. A $50 belt repaired it. ):
