Here is modern shipbuilding happening in our state.

Why do you think they build in this manner?

What are the pros/cons?

Cable Ties & More

I purchase a fair amount of our wiring and electrical supplies from Waytek. I thought that this was a clever add for their cable ties and all of the things that you might do with them.

Take a look at their website to see all of the materials that they have available.

Fun Things to do With Waytek Cable Ties.

These days cable ties are giving duct tape a run for its money. Generally known for their  primary function of bundling cables and cords, cable ties are a versatile product, increasingly being utilized for a variety of creative purposes and applications.

overstock cable tiesHeart Surgery
Students at John Hopkins University came up with the idea of using cable ties to close up a chest after heart surgery. The ties are threaded through the rib cage and fastened around the sternum.

Child Proofing
If you have little ones visiting your home, it doesn't make sense to purchase and install child locks on your cabinets and doors. Use cable ties to temporarily secure things from curious children.

Mix and Match
You can mix and match different sizes and varieties of Cable Ties within each product group and receive the best possible quantity break pricing available.

Gardening
In a garden, plants such as tomatoes often need assistance to grow and stand up straight. By using some ties on a plant stake, you will help to promote upward growth.

Emergency Fasteners
When a zipper or button busts on a pair of pants, a cable tie can hold everything together. Likewise if you break a shoe lace.

Pet Care Can't find the dog's collar? Try a zip tie. Just be careful not to secure it too tightly. And if the precious pooch has chewed through yet another leash, create a chain of cable ties for an insta-leash.

Handcuffs
Too many criminals and not enough hand-cuffs? Break out some cable ties and secure the conniving thieves until the police car reaches the station.

Travel
Bright, fluorescent cable ties can help identify a suitcase at baggage claim. This can help avoid all sorts of hassles, from thinking every black bag is yours to picking up the wrong suitcase.

Keys
Keys are plentiful enough without adding a fancy schmancy key chain to bulk up a pocket or purse. Loop a cable tie through a set of keys and you're good to go.

Did You Know at WAYTEK most of our cable ties and terminals qualify for mix-and-match quantity discounts, and they're in stock and ready to ship the same day.*  This applies to most combinations of terminals and cable ties. The more you order, the more you save!

For example, mix a variety of stainless steel tie sizes, with nylon standard mounting ties, colored nylon cable ties and a variety of mounting bases to receive the best quantity cable tie pricing.

Please call 800-328-2724, email sales@waytekwire.com, or visit www.waytekwire.com if you have any questions about this offer or to find where price breaks occur.

*on all in stock orders placed before 4:30 p.m. central time.

Here is an oversize load making its way into and up the state to Lake Roosevelt.

I wonder how many tires need their air pressure checked on this load?

Learning Portfolio (blog) Requirements, Grades and Grading

To participate in the diesel class you will need to set up, and maintain a Learning Portfolio. Google Blogger works well to do this. Here is a tutorial on how to get started with Blogger:   http://youtu.be/rKVQKQxxUlk

Once you set it up, copy the URL/http:// address and paste it into an email to me so that I can follow and comment every week.

Put up a weekly report of the following, in a post, due every Monday night at 11:59pm:

1.       Hours per week.
2.       Running total of hours (hours-to-date) until you reach your required hours. (see the example below)
3.       A "reflection" of what you have learned this week. Pick just one thing and post a few lines about it. This is NOT a list of tasks done, this is a capture of your self-talk (yes, we all do it…) and thought, outlining what you have learned the previous week. This is the most important part of your learning portfolio.
4.       Include a couple of photos or a video each week.

You will be graded on the following:

1.       Spelling – if you use a word it must be spelled correctly. There is a reason for the red dots under a word; it is likely misspelled. The expectation is that it is spelled correctly.
2.       Punctuation – start with sentences capital letters, end with periods, question marks or exclamation points.
3.       Content –  you MUST reflect on your learning, not just make a list of tasks. What did you learn? Write about it. This is important.
4.       Photos/video – sometime in the 300 hours you have included an interesting photo or video to support your writing on what you have learned. Just a few are needed…no need to over-do it.
5.       Timeliness – your blog is due at 11:59p Monday night, regardless of holidays. Posts added after 11:59p are late
You have one ‘grace’ period. After one late post the grade starts to fall from an ‘A’.

‘A’ work represents exceptional work. Deviation from any of the standards above will result in something less than an ‘A’.
